Allied Health Assistant service

Allied Health Assistant

At Move Healthcare, our Therapy Assistants – also known as Allied Health Assistants – work hand in hand with our physiotherapists to help deliver therapy programs and support people to achieve their goals. We provide this service across NDIS, Aged Care, Rehab in the Home and for private clients. Click below to find out more about how we can help.

How we can help you

A physiotherapist will first complete an assessment, or already be working with the client, and may recommend a Therapy Assistant as part of the ongoing treatment plan. Therapy Assistants have relevant qualifications, work under the supervision of the treating physiotherapist, and are supported with regular reviews to monitor progress and respond to any changes. This service is often well suited to people with less acute needs who would benefit from ongoing help to complete their therapy program.

A Therapy Assistant works hand in hand with your physiotherapist to help deliver the treatment plan that has been recommended for you. Your physiotherapist remains responsible for your assessment, reviews your progress, and adjusts your program as needed. This team approach helps ensure that your therapy remains safe, consistent and focused on your goals.

Therapy Assistants help clients complete prescribed exercise programs safely and consistently. This can include mobility exercises, strengthening work, balance activities and functional practice. Having someone there to guide and supervise the program can help improve confidence, encourage regular participation and support better outcomes over time.

Using a Therapy Assistant can be a cost-effective way to receive more regular support. Because the cost of a Therapy Assistant is generally lower than a physiotherapy session, it can help people maximise their funding, stretch their budget further, or be seen more often while still following a physiotherapist-led plan.

Our Therapy Assistants work with clients across NDIS, Aged Care, Rehab in the Home and private services. This support is often ideal for people who would benefit from ongoing assistance with their rehabilitation or exercise program, particularly when their needs are stable and they are working towards longer-term functional goals.

Benefits can include:

  • More frequent therapy support
  • Lower overall service cost
  • Help to stay on track with prescribed exercises
  • Supervision and encouragement during sessions
  • Closer support to achieve rehabilitation goals

Our stories

Working with Paul

Paul experienced reduced mobility and strength following a significant back injury. This limited his ability to walk outdoors and exercise. It was identified that Paul would benefit from seeing a Therapy Assistant. John, one of our Allied Health Assistants, worked closely with Paul’s physiotherapist to implement his rehabilitation program.

John’s role was to help Paul stay active and work towards his physiotherapy goals. This was done by delivering his prescribed exercise program, focusing on safe strengthening, mobility and functional movement. This enabled Paul to achieve his physiotherapy goals, with improved strength, mobility and confidence in daily activities. Paul is now able to walk 2 to 3 kilometres outdoors with minimal back pain.
