Greg reached out to Move Healthcare as he wanted to be more physically active and see if there was any way he could improve his mobility. Greg is a middle-aged man who suffered a traumatic brain injury in his early adulthood. His injuries left him with left-sided weakness and spasticity that has resulted in him not being able to walk. Greg uses an electric wheelchair for mobility and when Move Healthcare first met Greg he relied upon a full body hoist for transfers from his wheelchair to his lounge chair.
With Move Healthcare’s help, Greg started regular physiotherapy at home to strengthen his legs and practise his transfers in and out of his wheelchair. As Greg’s strength and confidence grew, we knew he had the potential to transfer in and out of his wheelchair without the need for a full-body hoist. We liaised with Greg’s occupational therapist, his support workers and an equipment supplier and trialled some new equipment with Greg. Through Greg’s hard work he was eventually able to transfer in and out of his wheelchair using a standing-aide for all of his transfers.
This greatly improved Greg’s ability to access the community more. He now is able to attend his local swimming pool where he enjoys hydrotherapy twice a week, he is also learning to play golf with help from a specialist golf coach.
